U7 (Development) (Oshawa Church Hockey League)

PrintU7 (Development)

Development U7
Ages 5&6

Those players who are five (5) and six (6) years of age will be placed on teams that will be given ice times twice per week.   Saturday mornings at Campus Ice Centre and one other time during the week.

We have joined forces with the Oshawa Minor development group to offer a focused program that will challenge every player at each skill level.

The ice will be divided into stations so that all players are active and are introduced to many different skating and puck control scenarios. The focus is to challenge the ability of each player to improve skating stride, edges, stopping / starting, puck control and positioning.

Program cost is only $450 (2 hours/week) for the entire season!

PLEASE visit our registration page for instructions on how to register online through our hockey Canada/OMHA portal in order to secure your spot.

Coaches and parent volunteers are encouraged to participate with the hope they learn the drills and techniques which will allow them to help in future years.

The drills in the Development Program are structured in a progressive way with the focus being to teach the player to be confident on their skates all while having fun!!!!

The Program is structured with Scrimmages/ Skill Development so that the kids are having the chance to experience the playing aspect of the game while also being able to use the skills they have learned during the scrimmage.

The program will teach the players the concept of a real hockey game and allows more touches of the puck given the smaller cross-ice surface. It will also start to build and teach the team aspect of the game.

Team and individual skills will be the focus of the program, each player will be introduced to all positions including goaltender (goalie equipment supplied).

Session Format

The focus of the program will be as follows:

·        Balance

·        Endurance

·        Skating – forward stride / backwards

·        Forward / Backwards Crossovers

·        Stopping

·        Passing

·        Shooting

·        Puck control

There will be 32 players per ice time, these players will be broken into separate learning groups utilizing the whole ice surface.

There will be no score kept as this is for fun and position learning. By having scrimmages in the middle section of the ice during each hour we believe this gives every player the opportunity to apply the skills they are taught and start to learn the basic rink setup (boards, blue line, red line etc). We will do our best to have balanced teams to increase puck touches of each player and have a competitive balance.

The league supplies Tim Hortons' jerseys, socks, blue 4oz. pucks, appropriately sized nets (not mini stick nets!!) and other implements in which to teach the kids.

At the end of the season, all players are treated to a pizza party and are presented with a medallion. All team and individual pictures are also provided to each team.  This is included with registration at no additional cost.
